30 Rock DVR Ratings

December 3, 2008

I’m sort of a numbers nerd so this stuff is pretty interesting to me… Anyways I was pretty bored so I thought I’d share.

Here’s  a look at the DVR numbers for “30 Rock” so far:

Guide:  Live +7 is the total viewers who watch the episode live plus up to seven days after on DVR.  “DVR Viewers” is the number of people who watch the episode on DVR.  “Rank” is the place 30 Rock came in that week amongst other primetime shows for DVR viewers.  “Percentage” is the % of people who watch it on DVR.

Episode Live +7 DVR Viewers Rank %
3.01 – Do-Over 9.655 Million 1.990 Million #12 26.0%
3.02 – Believe in the Stars 9.466 Million 2.190 Million #9 30.1%
3.03 – The One with the
Cast of ‘Night Court’
8.810 Million 2.144 Million #14 24.3%

Source: TV By the Numbers (They have the Top 20 DVR shows from each week.  So if you’re interested, check it out.)

It looks as if 2 million people a week (or about a quarter of 30 Rock’s audience) are too busy on Thursday nights watching “Grey’s Anatomy” or “CSI” or maybe having actual lives that they watch later in the week.

Sure DVR numbers don’t mean too much (advertisers don’t pay for DVR viewers since they fast forward comercials) but it’s pretty significant that 50th-odd ranked show places in the top 15 for DVR viewers.  I’m just glad more people are watching this show!

I find this so interesting for the show.

I am obsessed with finding out how people watch their shows as well. What I have found peculiar for the UK (it’s where I live) is that when 30 Rock was on Channel Five for Series 1, the show was making 200-300K per episode on Friday nights. This was considered low but it was slowly become a cult hit.

And then what does Five do? They relegated it to a satellite channel called Five USA for Series 2. I am lucky I can watch it because I have satellite and now only 63K watched the opening episode.

This is not because 30R isn’t popular but it is because Channel Five keep fu/cking up how they promote 30R.

Why put a show that is gaining a small but devoted followship on a cable channel that is so expensive?

I swear Five don’t know what the hell they are doing.
