Tom Hanks to Guest on 30 Rock!

Friday, March 25th, 2011

I just threw up with excitement.

Film star Tom Hanks is poised to make his first acting appearance on primetime network TV in more than two decades when he guest stars on NBC’s 30 Rock this spring, TVLine has confirmed through a source.

Hanks himself announced the booking Friday night, on Twitter.

No details on Hank’s role are yet available — and as with some 30 Rock guest stars it’s possible he will appear as himself. But if he is playing a character, it will by and large mark the two-time Academy Award winner’s first network TV role since the early 1980s, when he guest-starred on multiple episodes of Family Ties as alcoholic Uncle Ned.

Prior to that, Hanks’ big break was of course the 1980 sitcom Bosom Buddies, where he starred alongside Peter Scolari.

Outside of broadcast TV, Hanks has made occasional cable cameos (in Band of Brothers and From the Earth to the Moon, both of which he produced) and played Abraham Lincoln in the 2003 PBS docu Freedom.

Hanks is but the latest film star to pay a visit to talent magnet 30 Rock, following in the footsteps of the likes of Susan Sarandon, Matt Damon, James Franco and young Chloe Moretz.

Avery Won’t be a Regular

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Wow Season 5 spoilers already…

It looks like when 30 Rock returns, Elizabeth Banks won’t be a series regular now that she’s in a relationship with Jack:

Question: On 30 Rock, Jack’s lady Avery is preggo. Does that mean Elizabeth Banks is sticking around the Rock full time next season? —Andrea
Ausiello:
Nope, it sure doesn’t. While Banks will definitely be back, there are no plans for her to become a series regular. As my former Scrubs costar told me back in January, “[I'm] having too much fun making movies [to commit to a TV show]. The [TV jobs] are a really fun thing to do between movie gigs.”

I wonder how they’ll wrap this up.
