Season 7 Probably Happening

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Alec Baldwin recently said he believes 30 Rock will return for a 7th season. He’s not sure if it will be a full season or a shortened order.  (My guess is they are negotiating that right now.)  But in any case he expects it to return.  This is probably because the writers are nearing the end of Season 6 and perhaps have started writing the final episodes planning on a 7th season.  Whatever the case is hopefully they writers are given enough time to prepare and ending they’d be proud of.

Obviously Alec isn’t the best source of information when it comes to 30 Rock’s longevity so we’ll wait for NBC to make an announcement.  But all signs look good!

30 Rock Christmas Specials

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

The AV Club is doing a sort of advent calendar featuring articles about Christmas on TV.  One of the Days they covered 30 Rock’s four Christmas Specials.  It was a nice read especially since this season we won’t get one :( .  Check it out:

Unfortunately, 30 Rock isn’t currently on the air to provide us with a new Christmas episode, leaving us instead to look back at the four great holiday episodes the show has given us over the years. What makes the 30 Rock Christmas episodes work so well is a double fakeout of holiday spirit. Typically, an episode begins with the saccharine TV merriment that accompanies the usual “Hey, guys, it’s our Christmas show!” episode. Next, the episode quickly heads for a cynical, dark space, often accompanied by drunkenness, family dysfunction, or even a brush with racial humor. But then the episode always ends on a truly sentimental note (usually with a song), which is what makes the episodes so legitimately heartwarming. We don’t need to pretend it’s the 1950s and everything is perfect in order to really enjoy the holidays; we can admit that we’re a bunch of messed-up sickos, but once a year, we’re capable of getting mushy and merry in our own way.

30 Rock’s Advertizing Revenue

Monday, October 24th, 2011

Ad Age released their annual chart of estimated cost for a 30 second commercial spot for each show on broadcast prime time. You can click through each day on their website. But here is just NBC’s shows so you can see where 30 Rock sits.  Notice 30 Rock is NBC’s number 3 scripted show behind The Office (obviously) and Smash (which premieres in the spring.)  Plus all the money NBC is getting in syndication.  I don’t see why 30 Rock will end until Tina Fey and Co want it to.

Sunday Night Football $512,367
The Voice $206,500
The Office $178,840
Smash $154,000
The Apprentice $145,500
30 Rock $133,000
Whitney $120,604
Awake $117,550
