Predicting Emmy Submissions
August 14, 2008
After getting nominated based on their one episode submission, shows in the Best Series category choose 6 episodes to send in to showcase their season. They are on 3 tapes of two episodes a piece. This year 30 Rock was nominated for sending in “Cooter.” Now they choose six episodes to run in the Outstanding Comedy Series race. 30 Rock has submitted their tapes and it should be leaked to the public in the next week or so. I’m always curious to see what they are, since they can secure or loose an Emmy for the show. In anticipation, I thought we could throw around our thoughts on which 6 episodes 30 Rock should and will have picked. Posted in Emmy Award |
I’ll leave my thoughts in the comments below.

Tape 1:
“Rosemary’s Baby” – An amazing ep and Emmy showed it Writing and Directing love.
“Greenzo” – Great episode, great ensemble work, plus Emmy loves Gore
Tape 2:
“Somebody to Love” – Edie Falco, Lifetime Movie, Northrax.
“Secrets and Lies” – Paired with more CC. Great work from the ensemble.
Tape 3:
“Episode 210″ – I’m not sure about this one but it’s something different and that could be a good thing.
“Cooter” – Just a pretty awesome episode
Episode 210 could be replaced with “Subway Hero”, “Succession”, or “Sandwich Day”.

Tape 1 should definitely have Rosemary’s Baby. Best episode of the season. But I would replace your choice of Greenzo with Seinfeld vision. I think it’s still good ensemble work, Seinfeld is awesome as always, and there’s no annoying David Schwimmer to bring the episode down.
I’d stick with your choices for Tape 2. Maybe replace Secrets and Lies with Ep 210. Not sure. Either way, hard to go wrong.
Tape 3 definitely needs Cooter, but I’d go with either Succession or Sandwich Day for the second ep. I think Sandwich Day is the funnier episode overall, but Succession is still good and ties in better with Cooter (since Sandwich Day altogether ignores Tracy’s porn video game plot).

Tape 1
“Rosemary’s Baby” – Already got nommed for writing, directing, guest appearance and it was Alec’s submission.
“Greenzo” – A generally great episode.
Tape 2
“Cougars” – Funny episode in general. All the storylines in this episode are funny.
“Episode 210″ – Drunk dialing, co-op board meeting, Midnight Train
Tape 3
“Succession” – Tina and Alec are brilliant in this episode. Will Arnett has already got a nom, and he’s in this ep.
“Sandwich Day” or “Cooter” – Both are great. Sandwich Day if they want storyline and funny. Cooter if they just want general funny. I’m leaning towards Sandwich Day.
