Writers Panel at New York Television Festival

September 27, 2009

The New York Television Festival put up this video of their panel with the 30 Rock Writers.  John Riggi, Kay Cannon and Emmy Winner Matt Hubbard were present.

I’ve only watched bits here and there but I can’t wait to have the time to watch it all.  I’m a huge nerd for these kinds of things so I think this is awesome!

Here’s the video:

I watched it live. IIRC Kay Cannon said Tina has a plan as to how she sees the show ending. Interesting.

Managed to watch it all just now. Interesting insight but I wish we heard more about Tina’s endgame! It really seems like she’s steadfast about the whole five seasons thing. I saw the whole Lurleen Katz sketch from the unaired pilot and it was pretty weak, really interesting to see how much decision making and thought is put into things like that.
I laughed at how Drew was called Jon Hamm for a while. Lucky they got him then!

I noticed that too, about everyone admitting that Tina has a definite idea for how long she wants the show to last, etc.

I think I might have an idea of what she was thinking and I don’t think she was kidding on the DVD when she said she only wants it to go another two years (5 seasons total). I’m guessing she wants Liz to eventually get what she wants re: love life, kids, etc., but that stuff basically kills a sitcom (see Murphy Brown), so she’s going to leave the very end of the show open to the very real possibility of all that stuff happening for Liz, before Liz gets too old for that to be truly realistic anymore. But she won’t address most of it…it’ll just be happening for future Liz, when the show’s not on anymore.
