Writer’s Strike
Ok this is just to keep everyone up to date with what’s going on. To do so the most recent news is on the top of the page while the older stuff is on the bottom. I’ll provide links to articles when I get the chance.
Where I get my info:
Deadline Hollywood Daily - Often criticized for not being pro-writer enough. She gives both sides of the story no matter who it makes look good. If you want the full scoop this is it.
United Hollywood - A great source of what’s going on. It’s extremely writer-sympathetic to the point where it’s biased.
USA Today - Ok Don’t laugh. I know it’s not the best source but they do give detailed, almost gossipy info on what the stars are doing since the strike.
—-Writers Strike—-
Jan 22nd. - WGA presidents announce that they have dropped reality and animation from their demands. This is actually a possitive as it proves they are serious about reaching a deal. To further prove their detication to a deal. The WGA leadership has gone under media silence.
Jan 18th. - The WGA begins informal talks with some studio heads. They are reportedly civil and beneficial on both sides. Informal talks like these led to the DGA negotiating their deal.
Jan 17th. - The Directors Guild of America (DGA) reaches and agreement with the AMPTP. It’s said to be ground breaking on many of the issues the WGA is barganing for.
Jan 15th. - Studios cancel writers contracts. This is actually a good thing since it prepares a the studios to work on new contracts.
Jan 10th. - The last pre-strike episode aired. It didn’t even get a title since it wasn’t named before the writers strike.
Dec 8th. - Negotiations between he writers and the AMPTP completely break down. The producers walk out and refuse to schedule new talks until the writers drop a majority of their demands.
Nov 29th. - The studios present the Writers with a deal. At first glance the WGA is angry with the new contract since it’s pretty much just their old contract with no provisions for internet residuals. It’s an insulting proposal. (Think “Hardball” When Jack goes. “Here’s my counter offer. 1 Dollar.”)
Nov 28th. - Tina Fey and Jack McBreyer sound optimistic in this video here.
Nov 26th. - The WGA and AMPTP returns to the negotiating tables.
Nov 19th. - The 30 Rock cast put on a live version of their show to raise money for the production staff. Link. I would’ve ginven limbs (plural) to be there. The show featured live performances and musical score as well as improvised commercials.
Nov 9th. - Production of 30 rock shuts down due to lack of new scripts.
Nov 6th. - Tina Fey shows up on the picket lines. She stopped writing for the show, but must still act and produce according to her contract
Nov 5th. - Writers Strike Begins. All writing for the show ends. 30 Rock still has 2 episodes to shoot and produce that were already written. Tina Fey is there the first day picketing. Video Here.
