February 3rd - EW’s Ask Ausiello

Question: I need some 30 Rock gossip! —Courtney
Ausiello: Major spoiler alert: Jack Donaghy has a heart! Seriously. The shocking reveal takes place in this week’s episode when the soulless suit goes out of his way to avoid crushing someone’s hopes and dreams. All I’ll say is it involves the arrival of Jenna’s mother, played by the hilarious and much-missed Jan Hooks.

January  28th - Spoiler TV

Casing Call 4.17:

[JEREM] (30s-40s) Offbeat, tall and gangly man in a tight turtleneck and short shorts. Perpetually unimpressed. 3 SCENES, 4 LINES.

[GOOD LOOKING GUY] (30s-40s) Good looking guy next door. 1 GOOD SCENE, 3 LINES.

January 25th - TV Guide

The episode will reunite her character, Liz Lemon, with several old lovers, and that apparently includes the Bon Jovi frontman. Also back: Dean Winters, who has recurred since the series started as Dennis Duffy, and Saturday Night Live’s Jason Sudeikis as former flame Floyd. “Liz is upset to learn Floyd is not only getting married, but is competing to get a free wedding on The Today Show,” says Tina, who’s trying to lure some of the Today anchors on for cameos.

And Mad Men’s Jon Hamm will also return in the Valentine’s show as ex-beau, Dr. Drew Baird. Just before I spoke with Tina, she’d run into Jon in the Shrine Auditorium ballroom and was startled to see the handsome actor’s face covered up behind a big bushy beard. “I went up to him and very carefully said, ‘So, you’re going to shave that beard for Saturday Night Live, right?’ (Hamm hosts next week’s show.) And he said, yes, Lorne Michaels asked him to shave. So he will hopefully also be clean shaven on 30 Rock.”

January 20th - Spoiler TV

Casting Call 4.16:

[KAITLIN] (Late 20s-Early 30s) Blonde yogarobics instructor and model. Beautiful, kind, charming: the object of men’s desire and women’s scorn. SEVERAL SCENES.

[WAITER] (20s-40s) Male… Funny, possibly charactery looking. Doesn’t realize a dish on the menu is causing patrons to get drunk. 1 SCENE, 4 LINE

January 19th - TV Guide

Tina Fey tells me movie actor Michael Sheen (”The Queen,” “Frost/Nixon”) will be coming on 30 Rock to romance her character Liz Lemon, “but we can’t stand each other.” Also look for Mad Men’s Jon Hamm to pop back up as Dr. Drew for the sitcom’s Valentine’s Day episode.

January 11th - Spoiler TV

Casting Call 4.15:

[DAVE] (60s) Jack’s old colleague. 2 GOOD SCENES. Possible guest star.
[EMPLOYEE ON MONITOR] (Late 30s-50s) Male. Based in LA, on a conference call with NY. 1 SCENE, 2 LINES.

[PRIEST] (40s-60s) at an Episcopal funeral. 1 SCENE, 1 LINE.
[EXECUTIVE] (40s-60s) Male. 1 SCENE, 2 LINES.

January 10th - NBC Guest Star News

In “30 Rock,” Elizabeth Banks is a CNBC reporter who starts dating Jack Donaghy (Emmy and Golden Globe winner Alec Baldwin) beginning Thursday, February 11.

Likewise in “30 Rock,” Golden Globe winner Jon Hamm (”Mad Men”) returns as the doctor who arouses Liz’s (Tina Fey) romantic interest on Thursday, February 11.

Also, “30 Rock” welcomes James Franco (”Spiderman”) who portrays himself on January 14.

December 14th - Casting Call 4.14

[DR. KAPLAN] (Male, 50s). Liz’s dentist. POSSIBLE GUEST STAR.

December 10th - EW

Question: Any more deets on Elizabeth Banks’ character on 30 Rock? —Jill
Ausiello:
She’s being described as a fast-talking, quick-witted, whip-smart host of a financial news program. Picture a cross between Suze Orman and Glenn Beck. Sounds like the perfect foil for Jack, no? BTW, Banks’ Rock stint may be expanded from four to six episodes, provided the scheduling can be worked out. She’s shooting Rock simultaneously with her role in the Paul Haggis-directed The Next Three Days. Someone’s in demand!

And not a spoiler really but a cool bit about Matt Damon:

Question: How’s about some good 30 Rock scoop. —Khewit
Ausiello:
I hear Tina Fey’s next big celeb get is Matt Damon. I also hear The Ausiello Files will collect a small commission if a deal comes to pass since we jump-started negotiations with Damon at last week’s Invictus premiere. “I would do [30 Rock] in a heartbeat if they asked me to come on,” Damon enthused. “I have not been approached about doing it. She should call my people — or even better me. Or I could call her. Let’s make this happen. Tina is a brilliant comedy writer. My wife and I download that show in bulk. That’s actually one of the downsides to working so much this year; I have fallen behind on this season. But we love that show, so if she has a part for me, I’m game.” Ball’s in your court, Fey!

Brynn in Poway, Calif.: Any fun guest stars on 30 Rock this season?
Will Arnett
is back as Devon, Jack Donaghy’s lifelong nemesis—and he’s made some new friends. Apparently, Devon took part in the Obama campaign and became BFFs with the first daughters. Trust us, these phone call scenes are unmissable. TPTB are staying tight-lipped on other celebs who might be stopping by the comedy powerhouse, but 30 Rock exec producer Robert Carlock tells us we’ll see the fabulous Betty White playing herself early on.

October 8th - EW: Nate Corddry to Guest.

Turns out Jon Hamm isn’t the only famous person living in Liz Lemon’s NYC apartment building.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that 30 Rock has tapped former Daily Show correspondent Nate Corddry to play Liz’s upstairs neighbor, Brian.

The actor-comedian — most recently seen as restaurateur-slash-stalker Gene Stuart on Showtime’s United States of Tara — will guest star in this season’s sixth episode.

The plot finds duplex-obsessed Liz scheming to get Brian to ditch his apartment so she can buy it and combine it with hers. Natch, her plan hits a snag when she discovers… um… something unexpected and extremely spoilery.

October 8th - Robert Carlock and Jane Krakowski

A ton of info on the upcoming season in this interview.

October 7th - TV Guide

When is 30 Rock coming back? I want to go to there again soon. — Barry
MICKEY: Me too, Barry! When 30 Rock returns on Thursday, Oct. 15 (9:30/8:30c, NBC), you’re going to meet a whole new Liz Lemon, one who is sneaking around with a married man. She gets caught, of course, and hilarity ensues when the wife is kind of OK with it.

Meanwhile, Tracy (Tracy Morgan) and Jenna (Jane Krakowski) both have reason to be angry with Liz (Tina Fey) and are determined to make her life miserable. Liz has to find a way to regain order over her life and the show. Outside of the studio, Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) devotes some of his spare time to volunteering at an animal shelter. Judah Friedlander and Keith Powell also star. (NBC).
October 3rd - EW Magazine

Jane Krakowski’s vapid 30 Rock character is suiting up for a party full of “gay guys and sexy girls,” costume designer Tom Broecker says.  “The whole idea of this episode [airing Oct. 29th] is that sexy girls only go to gay parties, so Judah and the guys [the TGS writing staff] are trying to cash it.” And that’s how the gay pirate came about.

October 1st - NBC

September 29th - The Arizona Republic

Question: What scenes were you working on this morning?

Answer: I was working with Tracy Morgan.  They’re threatening to hire a new cast member, and we’re plotting not to have that happen. I love when I get to do something with Tracy. Our characters are two of the most self-centered people in the world.

September 22nd - Access Hollywood

Tina: We’re actually shooting a bit tomorrow with Betty White, so that’s good.
Reporter: Who will she be playing?

Tina: She’s playing herself.

September 21st - EW

Tina: Jenna is going to go country at some point. … At some point Jenna is going to get into a very high profile relationship with a movie star that is arranged by the agents.

September 19th - Spoiler TV

Casting Call  for 4.05:
[SIMON BARRONS] (Early 20s). A tiny, boyish junior talent agent prone to the hiccups, always dressed in an ill-fitting suit. Simon signs Liz with the hopes of launching a new talk show inspired by her book, “Dealbreakers.” Having only represented dogs in the past, it’s going to be a challenge. (4 scenes, 19 lines).

[SCOTTIE SHOFAR] (Late 20s-Early 30s). A successful and very slick wheeling/dealing producer who Liz meets with about her new “Dealbreakers” talk show. Glued to his blackberry, he texts and takes calls during their dinner, oblivious to the fact that her sleeve catches on fire. (1 scene, 10 lines)

[MAN] (30s). With a crazy speech impediment, he asks Jack and the actors where TGS is and they assume he’s the new cast member. Turns out he’s on the wrong floor—he’s really an “Advanced Computer Technician on Retainer” reporting to “Technology Group Services.” (1 scene, 2 lines).

[CREW GUY] (30s-40s). Upbeat and friendly, he wishes Pete a happy birthday and is then ignored. (1 scene, 1 line).

[SPORTSWRITERS #1, #2, #3, #4] (Late 20s- Early 50s). Appear as guests on the series “Sports Shouting,” yelling stats and facts at the other writers on a four-way split screen. (1-2 Scenes, 1-2 Lines).

September 17th - The Daily Journal

What to expect from your favorite returning shows:

Notable guests: Will Arnett returns as Devon Banks, Jack’s rival at GE. Executive producer Robert Carlock promises story lines for Chris Parnell (as the incompetent Dr. Leo Spaceman) and Dean Winters (Liz’s nightmare of an ex-boyfriend, Dennis Duffy). And we might hear the first words from Cathy Geiss (Marceline Hugot), 30 Rock’s answer to Maggie Simpson.

Where we’re headed: Jack and Liz will look to capitalize on the popularity of Dealbreaker, but they’re worried about focus-group data that show Tracy and TGS co-star Jenna Maroney (fellow Emmy nominee Jane Krakowski) don’t play well in flyover country. So Jack sends Liz on a scouting trip to Georgia to check out a ventriloquist (Jeff Dunham) and orchestrates Jenna’s Jessica Simpson-esque foray into country music. Tracy figures prominently in 30 Rock’s first Halloween episode, playing on the “celebrities always die in threes” rule and his fear of being the third.

September 16th - EW’s Fall TV Preview

Times are tough, even for our favorite network honcho, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin). “In Jack’s head, the economy is off because people like him have lost touch with real American,” explains exec producer Robert Carlock.  Jack’s two-step solution: (1) Jenna (Jane Krakowski) must become a Jessica Simpsonesque country singerl and (2) Liz (Tina Fey) must hire a new actor “who will test well outside of major cities.” The core characters will be up to their usual high jinks in season 4: Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) organizes a page strike; Tracy (Tracy Morgan) fears for his life when two celebrities die in one week (famous people always die in threes, you know); Jenna will star in a cut-rate werewolf movie; and Liz will face the downside of becoming a relationship guru thanks to her catchphrase That’s a deal braker, ladies! “Jack tries to launch a talk show iwth her as a host,” Carlock says.  “It implodes with a high-def camera test where it looks like she has a mustache.” (Oct 15th.)

September 14th - Set Photos (or check them out here.)

Looks like the NBC pages will go on strike over the change of page jackets!

August 27th - Casting Call

Casting Call 403:
[TRAVIS] (30s) – A motel clerk at the quaint Red Roof Inn in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Mindnumbingly slow in a friendly, country, “what’s the hurry” way. Takes his time checking Jack and Liz into their rooms, oblivious to the fact they’re in a rush, and informs them, in explicit detail, about the Peach Festival.

August 27th - EW’s Ask Ausiello

Question: What’s in store for Jane Krakwoski’s Jenna on 30 Rock this season? —Kimberly
Ausiello:
Her career will literally start sucking when she lands the female lead in a second-rate Twilight franchise. “For tax reasons, they shoot it in Iceland and then they realize the sun doesn’t set,” explains exec producer Robert Carlock. “So they’re shooting a vampire movie without having light.” Genius.

August 23rd - Casting Call 402 (More)

Casting Call for402:
[PORN JACK] (30s-40s) A ripped Chippendale-style stripper type who bears some resemblance to Alec Baldwin. A terrible actor. Bored with what he’s doing. Talks to Porn Liz about work and then starts to disrobe at the end of the scene. (1 scene, 3 lines).

August 21st - Casting Call 402

Casting Call for 402:
[JESSE] (20s-40s) A dog shelter employee who shows Kenneth around the Animal Rescue Shelter where he volunteers. Jesse urges Kenneth not to get emotionally attached to the dogs, but Kenneth decides to adopt them. All of them. (1 scene, 2 lines)

[SHAWN] (30s-40s) Scandanavian. The director of “Nightstalkers,” the doomed independent zombie movie shooting in Iceland in broad daylight. He has seconds to get a shot in before the sun comes up, and hurriedly rushes Jenna to action. (1 scene, 4 Lines)

[DINESH SINGH] (20s-50s) An Indian design engineer in the Microwave Division. Jack asks Liz to help Dinesh invent a microwave that will boost corporate sales. Dinesh works tirelessly to accommodate outlandish requests from Jack and the writers, and ends up creating a mircowave that resembles a small SUV. (3 scenes, 1 line).

[SUBHAS] (60s-70s) A kindly older Indian janitor who empties Liz’s trash on the carpet and throws the garbage pail on the floor. As he exits, he yells, “You’re the Dealbreaker!” (1 scene, 1 line).

[PORN LIZ] (30s) A porn star who bears an uncanny resemblance to Tina Fey. She’s starring in a low rent movie Tracy is making about Lemon’s life. (1 scene, 1 line).

[PORN JENNA] (30s) A porn star who bears an uncanny resemblance to Jane Krakowski. She stars opposite Porn Liz in this low-budget film. (1 scene, 1 line).

August 20th - Casting Call 401

Casting Call for 401:
[ROLLY] (40s-50s) A janitor at 30 Rock, originally from Brooklyn. Dotcom introduces Rolly to Tracy so that he can get back in touch with “the common man.” 1 scene, 3 Lines.

[PAYROLL GUY] (30s-40s) The one guy in the payroll department who survived the massive layoffs. Depressed and alone, he tells the envelope stuffing machine that it’s his birthday. 1 scene, 1 Line.

August 19th - Ausiello at EW!

Question: If you don’t give us some 30 Rock scoopage, I shall cry. —Amy
Ausiello: No tears, please. They, um, creep me out. So you hold back the flood waters, and I’ll tell you some stuff, okay? Deal? In the season’s fourth episode, Liz will endeavor to round out the cast of TGS with a new member, naturally leaning toward a hire who is more than just crazy talented. (Or less than just crazy talented… as in just crazy.) That same episode will introduce a wannabe who’s hoping to be discovered while pretending he’s a robot in Times Square. Since the character’s supposed to recur, his dream just might come true.

Ok that’s just re wording the casting call I already posted to make it sound like news.  I could do his job!

August 14th - SpoilerTV

Casting Calls for 403 and 404:
[JEFF WAYNE] (ep. 403) – a popular Southern ventriloquist, age 25-45. Jeff is a “good ol’ boy” comic who, along with his dummy, Pumpkin, impresses Jack with his insult act. GUEST STAR.

[JAYDEN MICHAEL TYLER] (ep. 404) – a 28-year old, up-and-coming comic. Jayden is Liz’s top pick for the new “TGS” cast member position. Although he seems perfectly nice at first, Jayden eventually reveals himself to be a psychopath. Must be able to do character voices; Russian accent, gay theater critic, Christopher Walken, etc sptv050769. GUEST STAR.

[DANNY] (ep. 404) – a handsome, all-American guy, ages 22-30, who performs a robot act in Times Square. Danny is new in town and hoping to make it in show biz. RECURRING GUEST STAR.

Matt is right! Kathy spoke in Season 3’s premiere when Liz ‘walks in’ on Kathy and Jack about to do it together to save the company. Liz tells them that if Jack was ‘cheating on her, they’ll disappear like Vivienne & Patch.’ Kathy looks at the soap opera currently on the TV and says “Kiss, Kiss, Kiss!” with great passion, and then Jack and Liz start, and then decide against it, adding “No thank you.”

    RE: Daily Journal Blurb

Did Kathy already say “Kiss Kiss Kiss!”? It confuses me. I hope that top portion about the guest stars isn’t recycled. Cause I need my 3 D’s: Devon, Dennis, and Dr. Spaceman!

    Jess Says:

As a viewer living in England who is obsessed with this show and horrified that it isnt shown over here, I cannot WAIT for series 4. I’ve caught up on series 1, 2 and 3 in about 2 weeks. I think its impossible to just watch one ep.

Anyway, I’m glad to hear that *hopefully* more focus will be given to the writing team. Series 1 started off that way but Pete almost totally tailed off toward the end of series 2 . And they were all non existant in series 3 except for a random weird episode. However I loved the Lutz hating. That was hilarious!

Some guest stars I liked, some I didnt. I enjoyed the way they were written into the show though. They were never a main focus of the plot, just a random character who had a couple of lines but did barely anything to the plot direction.

Anywho I know it will still be brilliant and cannot wait. Hornberger!

There’s a typo on the Ausiello spoiler: The word “light” is really “night.”

The second-rate vampire movie is probably my favorite plot concept thus far!

Ha, I was just going to say that PornLiz etc. might’ve been inspired by the porn Palin movie. But darn, it sounds like these scenes will be all too brief.
Wow, these casting calls sure are spoiler-y.

Best casting call ever! Obviously Porn Jenna and Porn Liz is comedy gold, but I’m also looking forward to Kenneth and the dogs and “Nightstalkers”!

It has to be said, but Palin’s currently unemployed…

I should have double-read my message, I was actually speaking of the Jayden character, the top pick for the new cast member. He appears in the episode where Danny is introduced, so maybe Josh is out, Jayden is considered as a replacement then Danny gets the gig.

And I maintain what I said about “Better Off Ted”. The title is stupid, the talking to the camera thing looks odd for two or three episodes but there were some true gems in the (so far) 14 episodes that have been broadcast: the detectors that don’t work with black skin, the father-daughter reunion, the bio-computer… As somebody else (on another board) said, it’s actually more a mixture of Arrested Development and The Office, with its own tone. And Portia DeRossi is far from being the only good thing in the cast.

One thing I’ve noticed in 30R is how Jack (especially since Alec became a producer) and Kenneth got more screen time with its passing season. Jack took over Pete’s duties as Liz’s confident, Kenneth has a storyline in almost every episode, while the things were a little more balanced (but still tentative) in season one. One thing that’s good with “Better Off Ted” is that there’s still balance among the characters. The two scientists are almost always a riot but they won’t favor Phil or Lem. The writers have understood that it is their relationship that makes them great support characters instead of a few distinctive features in their personality.

In 30 Rock, Kenneth might be a gold mine for laughs but I can’t help thinking that sometimes an episode lacks some Toofer, Frank, Josh or Pete instead of a umpteenth Kenneth plot that goes stale. But I acknowledge I browse any NBC announcement to check if Chris Parnell will be a guest…

And I agree with Krzystof. Tina just tried to please the interviewer, as many hardcore fans (such as I call myself) are fond of Frank and Pete. The writers already have decided a few general storylines for season 4 (like the Janis Joplin biopic in season 3) but so far only a few episodes have been scripted and nothing else is written in stone (remember the adoption storyline that was supposed to be central in S3). So, I doubt it will be the year of the Hornberger.

Which may be a loss. You have to get screentime for Jack’s new love interest played by an actress who’ll be delighted to get her Emmy nomination in due time.
