30 Rock Season 4 Spoilers
May 5, 2010
Here’s a round-up and a place to discuss spoilers for 30 Rock’s 4th season. Don’t forget to keep checking back as we’ll regularly update this post. WARNING: Spoilers abound below! Updated: May 5th - Spoilers From TVGuide and E! Online
May 5th - TV Guide Do you think there is any hope for Liz Lemon? I find myself growing weary of her inevitable transformation into a live action “Cathy.” — Bill The TV Addict: Firstly, don’t knock Cathy. And second, if Liz Lemon ends off the season alone (again!) it certainly won’t be due to a lack of effort as this Thursday’s episode has our lovelorn heroine revisiting past flames — including Jon Hamm, Michael Sheen, Jason Sudeikis and Dean Winters — in an effort to snag a date for Floyd’s upcoming nuptials. Note: I think he’s talking about 4.21 not this week’s episode… May 5th - Boyd in Australia: I’m pretty obsessed with Kenneth on 30 Rock. Does he have any cool stuff coming up? Jack McBrayer has this to say about this Thursday’s Mother’s Day episode: “It’s pretty much business as usual for Kenneth with the always mishaps. [But] all of the moms we’ve introduced come on in one fell swoop, and I got to be a mommy wrangler. It is a challenge.” For the record, I’d love nothing more than to be wrangled by Kenneth someday. We all have our dreams. April 28 - TV Guide “We’re building to some large emotional moments in our season finale,” says Tina Fey, whose Liz Lemon will be faced with three weddings and a no-fun Brit. “Michael Sheen returns to prove to that Liz is fated to be with Wesley… or could he be leading her to someone else?” April 20th - E! Online Karen in Michigan: I love Jane Krakowski! Does she have anything good ahead on 30 Rock?
April 16th - Showbiz As for guest stars returning to “30 Rock,” her acclaimed comedy series with Alec Baldwin, she revealed, “Michael Sheen is coming back at the end of the year. He’s like our new favorite, because he was so funny and delightful to work with. And Julianne Moore, Jon Hamm, Elizabeth Banks and Dean Winters are back.” April 1st - Korbi TV Seems Damon will play a commercial airline pilot whom Liz (Tina Fey) meets in this May’s finale. The character is apparently a big “TGS” fan and the episodes are a regular part of his in-flight entertainment. The two will hit it off and their relationship won’t be a one-ep wonder. Damon is set to return when “30 Rock”’s fifth season debuts this fall. March 30th - Broadway World “My spies at 30 Rock tell me about a special Mother’s Day episode that just wrapped which features a bevy of Broadway belters. Returning guests include Elaine Stritch as Alec Baldwin’s mom, Patti LuPone as Judah Friedlander’s mom, Jan Hooks as Jane Krakowski’s mom, and Anita Gillette as Tina Fey’s mom. With Broadway regulars Cheyenne Jackson and Krakowski, the final scene will be something like Mother’s Day - The Musical.” March 29th - TV Guide Buzz Aldrin to Guest: TVGuide.com: You just shot a 30 Rock guest spot. What can you tell us about that?Aldrin: That was wonderful, carrying on a conversation with very professional actors I greatly admired. I felt very honored to be paired up with something that also has another connection to me. I had to think about it a little bit. The first thing I thought of was 3rd Rock from the Sun. Then somebody said 30 Rock, and I was like, “What does that mean?” “That’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza.” That’s where my father worked! … I’m playing myself. It’s a facetious bit, poking fun at people, I guess, who get fired up a bit too much — I may fit into that category — and when they get frustrated, they start yelling at the moon. I ask Liz, “Hey Liz, would you like to yell at the moon with me?” That was a lot of fun. March 17th - TV Guide Can we please find 30 Rock’s Liz Lemon a decent love interest? March 11th - On Location Photos There are on location behind the scenes photos here. March 10th - Twitter & Onlocatin “30 Rock is filming a wedding scene at St. Cecilia’s, 84 Herbert St, Brooklyn. (Thanks Anon & Annie!)” - Source Such an awesome day today. Patti LaPone, Elaine Stritch, Anita Juliette, Novella Nelson, LUTZ! Too much. - Kay Cannon’s Twitter (Note: I think she means Anita Gillette who plays Liz’s Mom. March 1st - John Riggi’s Twitter “Day One. Liz Banks, Elaine Stritch and Jan Hooks. Here comes Elaine!” February 10th - Spoiler TV Casting Call 4.19: [PAUL] (30s-40s) Jenna’s attractive new boyfriend. Perpetually unimpressed. 3 SCENES, 4 LINES. January 25th - TV Guide The episode will reunite her character, Liz Lemon, with several old lovers, and that apparently includes the Bon Jovi frontman. Also back: Dean Winters, who has recurred since the series started as Dennis Duffy, and Saturday Night Live’s Jason Sudeikis as former flame Floyd. “Liz is upset to learn Floyd is not only getting married, but is competing to get a free wedding on The Today Show,” says Tina, who’s trying to lure some of the Today anchors on for cameos. And Mad Men’s Jon Hamm will also return in the Valentine’s show as ex-beau, Dr. Drew Baird. Just before I spoke with Tina, she’d run into Jon in the Shrine Auditorium ballroom and was startled to see the handsome actor’s face covered up behind a big bushy beard. “I went up to him and very carefully said, ‘So, you’re going to shave that beard for Saturday Night Live, right?’ (Hamm hosts next week’s show.) And he said, yes, Lorne Michaels asked him to shave. So he will hopefully also be clean shaven on 30 Rock.” January 20th - Spoiler TV Casting Call 4.16: [KAITLIN] (Late 20s-Early 30s) Blonde yogarobics instructor and model. Online Brynn in Poway, Calif.: Any fun guest stars on 30 Rock this season? October 8th - EW: Nate Corddry to Guest. Turns out Jon Hamm isn’t the only famous person living in Liz Lemon’s NYC apartment building. Sources confirm to me exclusively that 30 Rock has tapped former Daily Show correspondent Nate Corddry to play Liz’s upstairs neighbor, Brian. The actor-comedian — most recently seen as restaurateur-slash-stalker Gene Stuart on Showtime’s United States of Tara — will guest star in this season’s sixth episode. The plot finds duplex-obsessed Liz scheming to get Brian to ditch his apartment so she can buy it and combine it with hers. Natch, her plan hits a snag when she discovers… um… something unexpected and extremely spoilery. October 8th - Robert Carlock and Jane Krakowski A ton of info on the upcoming season in this interview. October 7th - TV Guide When is 30 Rock coming back? I want to go to there again soon. — Barry October 6th - Spoiler TV Casting Call for 4.07 [MALE JEWELER] (30s-40s) Well-known, caters to celebrities. Sells Tracy a necklace. Any Ethnicity. 1 Scene. October 6th - NBC Summary for 4.02 “Into the Crevasse” Jane Krakowski’s vapid 30 Rock character is suiting up for a party full of “gay guys and sexy girls,” costume designer Tom Broecker says. “The whole idea of this episode [airing Oct. 29th] is that sexy girls only go to gay parties, so Judah and the guys [the TGS writing staff] are trying to cash it.” And that’s how the gay pirate came about. October 1st - NBC Summary for 4.01 “Season Four” October 1st - Spoiler TV [BRIAN] 30s. Liz’s neighbor. Just a regular guy. She attempts to get him to move out of his apartment so she can convert hers into a duplex. SEVERAL SCENES. GUEST STAR. September 29th - The Arizona Republic Question: What scenes were you working on this morning? Answer: I was working with Tracy Morgan. They’re threatening to hire a new cast member, and we’re plotting not to have that happen. I love when I get to do something with Tracy. Our characters are two of the most self-centered people in the world. September 22nd - Access Hollywood Tina: We’re actually shooting a bit tomorrow with Betty White, so that’s good. September 21st - EW Tina: Jenna is going to go country at some point. … At some point Jenna is going to get into a very high profile relationship with a movie star that is arranged by the agents. September 19th - Spoiler TV Casting Call for 4.05: [SCOTTIE SHOFAR] (Late 20s-Early 30s). A successful and very slick wheeling/dealing producer who Liz meets with about her new “Dealbreakers” talk show. Glued to his blackberry, he texts and takes calls during their dinner, oblivious to the fact that her sleeve catches on fire. (1 scene, 10 lines) [MAN] (30s). With a crazy speech impediment, he asks Jack and the actors where TGS is and they assume he’s the new cast member. Turns out he’s on the wrong floor—he’s really an “Advanced Computer Technician on Retainer” reporting to “Technology Group Services.” (1 scene, 2 lines). [CREW GUY] (30s-40s). Upbeat and friendly, he wishes Pete a happy birthday and is then ignored. (1 scene, 1 line). [SPORTSWRITERS #1, #2, #3, #4] (Late 20s- Early 50s). Appear as guests on the series “Sports Shouting,” yelling stats and facts at the other writers on a four-way split screen. (1-2 Scenes, 1-2 Lines). September 17th - The Daily Journal What to expect from your favorite returning shows: Notable guests: Will Arnett returns as Devon Banks, Jack’s rival at GE. Executive producer Robert Carlock promises story lines for Chris Parnell (as the incompetent Dr. Leo Spaceman) and Dean Winters (Liz’s nightmare of an ex-boyfriend, Dennis Duffy). And we might hear the first words from Cathy Geiss (Marceline Hugot), 30 Rock’s answer to Maggie Simpson. Where we’re headed: Jack and Liz will look to capitalize on the popularity of Dealbreaker, but they’re worried about focus-group data that show Tracy and TGS co-star Jenna Maroney (fellow Emmy nominee Jane Krakowski) don’t play well in flyover country. So Jack sends Liz on a scouting trip to Georgia to check out a ventriloquist (Jeff Dunham) and orchestrates Jenna’s Jessica Simpson-esque foray into country music. Tracy figures prominently in 30 Rock’s first Halloween episode, playing on the “celebrities always die in threes” rule and his fear of being the third. September 16th - EW’s Fall TV Preview Times are tough, even for our favorite network honcho, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin). “In Jack’s head, the economy is off because people like him have lost touch with real American,” explains exec producer Robert Carlock. Jack’s two-step solution: (1) Jenna (Jane Krakowski) must become a Jessica Simpsonesque country singerl and (2) Liz (Tina Fey) must hire a new actor “who will test well outside of major cities.” The core characters will be up to their usual high jinks in season 4: Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) organizes a page strike; Tracy (Tracy Morgan) fears for his life when two celebrities die in one week (famous people always die in threes, you know); Jenna will star in a cut-rate werewolf movie; and Liz will face the downside of becoming a relationship guru thanks to her catchphrase That’s a deal braker, ladies! “Jack tries to launch a talk show iwth her as a host,” Carlock says. “It implodes with a high-def camera test where it looks like she has a mustache.” (Oct 15th.) September 14th - Set Photos (or check them out here.) Looks like the NBC pages will go on strike over the change of page jackets! April 16th - More Guest Star News
April 1st - Matt Damon’s Role and will he stick around?.
If the comedy styling’s of Saturday Night Live’s Will Forte tickle your fancy, then yes, 30 Rock’s Jenna has some good stuff ahead. Her too-good-to-be-true boy-toy is in fact that, and Liz and Pete are determined to get to the bottom of it before Jenna falls too hard.
Joey in Hawaii: What else is coming up on 30 Rock?
A big ol’ wedding! Sadly, Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy aren’t the ones taking a stroll down the aisle. (Come on, producers! Get with the program, would ya?) Right-hand man Grizz is taking the plunge, and Tracy and Dot Com fight over who gets to act as best man. Of course it’s Liz to the rescue, as always.
MICKEY: I hope not! Where’s the funny in that? But I am hearing that Liz might come one step closer to landing dream boyfriend Astronaut Mike Dexter this spring. Producers are looking for a 40-something guy to play a pilot named Carol, and his stand-up-guy description means he’s probably not destined to woo Jenna. Yes, Carol is a man, so stop that juvenile giggling. As my great-uncle Carroll O’Connor might say: Stifle it!
Ausiello: Major spoiler alert: Jack Donaghy has a heart! Seriously. The shocking reveal takes place in this week’s episode when the soulless suit goes out of his way to avoid crushing someone’s hopes and dreams. All I’ll say is it involves the arrival of Jenna’s mother, played by the hilarious and much-missed Jan Hooks.

Likewise in “30 Rock,” Golden Globe winner Jon Hamm (”Mad Men”) returns as the doctor who arouses Liz’s (Tina Fey) romantic interest on Thursday, February 11.
Ausiello: She’s being described as a fast-talking, quick-witted, whip-smart host of a financial news program. Picture a cross between Suze Orman and Glenn Beck. Sounds like the perfect foil for Jack, no? BTW, Banks’ Rock stint may be expanded from four to six episodes, provided the scheduling can be worked out. She’s shooting Rock simultaneously with her role in the Paul Haggis-directed The Next Three Days. Someone’s in demand!
Ausiello: I hear Tina Fey’s next big celeb get is Matt Damon. I also hear The Ausiello Files will collect a small commission if a deal comes to pass since we jump-started negotiations with Damon at last week’s Invictus premiere. “I would do [30 Rock] in a heartbeat if they asked me to come on,” Damon enthused. “I have not been approached about doing it. She should call my people — or even better me. Or I could call her. Let’s make this happen. Tina is a brilliant comedy writer. My wife and I download that show in bulk. That’s actually one of the downsides to working so much this year; I have fallen behind on this season. But we love that show, so if she has a part for me, I’m game.” Ball’s in your court, Fey!
GUEST STAR.
[WILLIAM] (30s-50s) A good looking man in a Banana Republic sweater.
Casting call for 4.12:
The tables are turned when production begins on Liz’s (Tina Fey) new talk show, “Dealbreakers,” and she experiences what its like to walk a mile in Jenna’s (Jane Krakowski) shoes. Jack (Alec Baldwin), dealing with pressure from Devin (guest star Will Arnett), calculates to make “Dealbreakers” a success. Meanwhile, Tracy (Tracy Morgan) takes on the ultimate Hollywood challenge in order to prove his commitment to his wife (guest star Sherri Shepherd). Everyone pitches in to help Tracy reach his goal, including Kenneth (Jack McBrayer), Dotcom (Kevin Brown) and Grizz (Grizz Chapman). Judah Friedlander, Keith Powell and Scott Adsit also star.

[OVERWEIGHT GAY GUY] (20s-40s) Joins Randy’s party at Liz’s house. 1 scene, 1 line.
Will Arnett is back as Devon, Jack Donaghy’s lifelong nemesis—and he’s made some new friends. Apparently, Devon took part in the Obama campaign and became BFFs with the first daughters. Trust us, these phone call scenes are unmissable. TPTB are staying tight-lipped on other celebs who might be stopping by the comedy powerhouse, but 30 Rock exec producer Robert Carlock tells us we’ll see the fabulous Betty White playing herself early on.
MICKEY: Me too, Barry! When 30 Rock returns on Thursday, Oct. 15 (9:30/8:30c, NBC), you’re going to meet a whole new Liz Lemon, one who is sneaking around with a married man. She gets caught, of course, and hilarity ensues when the wife is kind of OK with it.
[MAN IN UNIFORM] (20s-30s) Military Recruiter in Times Square. 1 Scene, 1 Line.
[WOMAN IN AUDIENCE] (30s-40s) Confesses her personal problems on a TV talk show. 1 Scene.
DEVIN (GUEST STAR WILL ARNETT) RETURNS TO SEEK REVENGE ON JACK (ALEC BALDWIN). — When Devin (guest star Will Arnett) returns to plot revenge against Jack (Alec Baldwin), he needs to find a way to protect the company and his job’s safety. Meanwhile, Tracy (Tracy Morgan) and Jenna (Jane Krakowski) both have reason to be angry with Liz (Tina Fey) and are determined to make her life miserable. Liz has to find a way to regain order over her life and the show. Outside of the studio, Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) devotes some of his spare time to volunteering at an animal shelter. Judah Friedlander and Keith Powell also star. (NBC).

JACK (ALEC BALDWIN) MAKES ADJUSTMENTS TO SAVE MONEY AND STAY RELEVANT DURING THE RECESSION. STEVE BUSCEMI GUEST STARS — Jack (Baldwin) informs Liz (Tina Fey), Tracy (Tracy Morgan) and Jenna (Jane Krakowski) that “TGS” needs to make immediate adjustments to become more relatable. In an effort to do their part, Jenna (Krakowski) decides to makeover her image, while Tracy (Morgan) attempts to regain touch with the common man. In the meantime, Jack sends Liz (Fey) and Pete (Scott Adsit) on a mission to scout new “TGS” talent while Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) leads a Page strike. Judah Friedlander and Keith Powell also star.

[BUFF GUY] (20s) Appears in an exercise video. 1 SCENE.
Reporter: Who will she be playing?
Tina: She’s playing herself.
[SIMON BARRONS] (Early 20s). A tiny, boyish junior talent agent prone to the hiccups, always dressed in an ill-fitting suit. Simon signs Liz with the hopes of launching a new talk show inspired by her book, “Dealbreakers.” Having only represented dogs in the past, it’s going to be a challenge. (4 scenes, 19 lines).
[TRAVIS] (30s) – A motel clerk at the quaint Red Roof Inn in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Mindnumbingly slow in a friendly, country, “what’s the hurry” way. Takes his time checking Jack and Liz into their rooms, oblivious to the fact they’re in a rush, and informs them, in explicit detail, about the Peach Festival.
Ausiello: Her career will literally start sucking when she lands the female lead in a second-rate Twilight franchise. “For tax reasons, they shoot it in Iceland and then they realize the sun doesn’t set,” explains exec producer Robert Carlock. “So they’re shooting a vampire movie without having light.” Genius.
[PORN JACK] (30s-40s) A ripped Chippendale-style stripper type who bears some resemblance to Alec Baldwin. A terrible actor. Bored with what he’s doing. Talks to Porn Liz about work and then starts to disrobe at the end of the scene. (1 scene, 3 lines).
[JESSE] (20s-40s) A dog shelter employee who shows Kenneth around the Animal Rescue Shelter where he volunteers. Jesse urges Kenneth not to get emotionally attached to the dogs, but Kenneth decides to adopt them. All of them. (1 scene, 2 lines)
[SHAWN] (30s-40s) Scandanavian. The director of “Nightstalkers,” the doomed independent zombie movie shooting in Iceland in broad daylight. He has seconds to get a shot in before the sun comes up, and hurriedly rushes Jenna to action. (1 scene, 4 Lines)
[DINESH SINGH] (20s-50s) An Indian design engineer in the Microwave Division. Jack asks Liz to help Dinesh invent a microwave that will boost corporate sales. Dinesh works tirelessly to accommodate outlandish requests from Jack and the writers, and ends up creating a mircowave that resembles a small SUV. (3 scenes, 1 line).
[SUBHAS] (60s-70s) A kindly older Indian janitor who empties Liz’s trash on the carpet and throws the garbage pail on the floor. As he exits, he yells, “You’re the Dealbreaker!” (1 scene, 1 line).
[PORN LIZ] (30s) A porn star who bears an uncanny resemblance to Tina Fey. She’s starring in a low rent movie Tracy is making about Lemon’s life. (1 scene, 1 line).
[PORN JENNA] (30s) A porn star who bears an uncanny resemblance to Jane Krakowski. She stars opposite Porn Liz in this low-budget film. (1 scene, 1 line).
[ROLLY] (40s-50s) A janitor at 30 Rock, originally from Brooklyn. Dotcom introduces Rolly to Tracy so that he can get back in touch with “the common man.” 1 scene, 3 Lines.
Ausiello: No tears, please. They, um, creep me out. So you hold back the flood waters, and I’ll tell you some stuff, okay? Deal? In the season’s fourth episode, Liz will endeavor to round out the cast of TGS with a new member, naturally leaning toward a hire who is more than just crazy talented. (Or less than just crazy talented… as in just crazy.) That same episode will introduce a wannabe who’s hoping to be discovered while pretending he’s a robot in Times Square. Since the character’s supposed to recur, his dream just might come true.
[JEFF WAYNE] (ep. 403) – a popular Southern ventriloquist, age 25-45. Jeff is a “good ol’ boy” comic who, along with his dummy, Pumpkin, impresses Jack with his insult act. GUEST STAR.
Reveals that in season 4 we will see:
- More Pete
- More Frank
- A little more Toofer
- More of Jenna singing
- Liz writing her “That’s a Deal Breaker Ladies!” book
- Possibility of Liz and Jack traveling to Kenneth’s hometown on a talent search.

So glad he makes it into every season. (Besides Jamaican Dennis of course.)

Looks like we’re for sure getting a Mother’s episode.
Elaine Stritch (Jack’s), Patti LuPone (Frank’s), Jan Hooks (Jenna’s), Anita Gillette (Liz’s) are all in Episode 420. Novella Nelson could be Tracy’s mom.
I wonder if we’ll meet Kenneth’s too.
As for the Wedding… I really don’t know who’s it could be. I’m hoping Cerie’s or someone random and not Liz or Jacks.

Apparently 30 Rock were filming a wedding scene today at St Cecilia’s RC Church in Brooklyn and Alec and Tina were on set. Any guesses as to who’s wedding that is?

I’m intrigued by this Avery character. It sounds like she could cross paths with either Liz or Jack. And possibly recurring? Mmmm…

OMG 10 yo. Jenna! XDD I already know that that’s gonna be something hilarious XD

So I’m guessing Julianne Moore plays the role of Jack’s high school crush in ep 2.08?

If only I were near where ever they’re having auditions… I could audition for Archeria! Only I’m not beautiful, and I’m not an actress.
But still!

Between Devon Banks, Jenna’s party, Cheyenne Jackson and Randy Lemon, this season is the gayest thing EVER.

Well HELLO randy lemon… i wonder what his purpose will be

I sincerely hope Devin is the NORMAL kind of BFFs with Sasha and Malia. Not like Tracy and Jack.

Matt is right! Kathy spoke in Season 3’s premiere when Liz ‘walks in’ on Kathy and Jack about to do it together to save the company. Liz tells them that if Jack was ‘cheating on her, they’ll disappear like Vivienne & Patch.’ Kathy looks at the soap opera currently on the TV and says “Kiss, Kiss, Kiss!” with great passion, and then Jack and Liz start, and then decide against it, adding “No thank you.”

I definitely suspect that the first paragraph was from Season 3 and the new spoilers start with “Where we’re headed.”

RE: Daily Journal Blurb
Did Kathy already say “Kiss Kiss Kiss!”? It confuses me. I hope that top portion about the guest stars isn’t recycled. Cause I need my 3 D’s: Devon, Dennis, and Dr. Spaceman!

As a viewer living in England who is obsessed with this show and horrified that it isnt shown over here, I cannot WAIT for series 4. I’ve caught up on series 1, 2 and 3 in about 2 weeks. I think its impossible to just watch one ep.
Anyway, I’m glad to hear that *hopefully* more focus will be given to the writing team. Series 1 started off that way but Pete almost totally tailed off toward the end of series 2 . And they were all non existant in series 3 except for a random weird episode. However I loved the Lutz hating. That was hilarious!
Some guest stars I liked, some I didnt. I enjoyed the way they were written into the show though. They were never a main focus of the plot, just a random character who had a couple of lines but did barely anything to the plot direction.
Anywho I know it will still be brilliant and cannot wait. Hornberger!
